Since most secondhand stores don't refund you for your purchases it is advised to follow these tips.
Shopping in Second Hand Stores can be timely and costly. Save some time and money by following these tips when purchasing used fashions:
Measure your waistline and other areas that you will need to decide what size you take with a tape measure before going to stores.
Bring the tape measure with you since most used fashion does not have the size tags on them.
Look over clothing before buying. Look for missing buttons, rips or tears in fabric, broken zippers, stains or moth damage.
Look over the price. Is the used fashion priced to high?
Certain secondhand stores offer weekly blue light specials. Such as half off coat day on Fridays or half off children toys on Mondays.
Household items can be bought at these stores as well. Potluck and knowing a little about antiques might bring home some treasures.
It is advise to always look over your treasures for wear and tear. Anything broken or torn is not a treasure after all. Don't forget yardsales are a good place to find bargains as well.
Organize Your Fashion
Need to get the children to school on time and they can't find something to wear? Let them help you organize it! Do you have a time budget to meet and need to organize your time?
If you use an item a lot, keep it near and accessible. Such as your favorite sweater.
You have 4 places where to relocate the clothes you do not use often-
(1) Another Closet
(2) Dresser Drawers
(3) Clear Stacking Storage Bins
(4) Open Stacking Shelves
The first thing you should do is separate all of your clothes into three categories:
Summer, winter or Spring/Autumn. Use Name labels on dressers drawers, closets, as well as on the Storage Bins. To save space - sort out your seasonal items and pack them away. You may add cedar chips in storage bins to avoid months. I don't recommend mothballs since they may be toxic.
Fold fashions that do not need to be on hangers and put in bins. Make bins labels with shirts only or pants only etc. Put shoes in buckets or organized shoe racks.
Clothing that you might need to give-a-way or toss out:
Clothing that is too big or small [I will never fit into them again!]
Items to Iron I don't feel like Ironing so why should I keep it?
Gym/athletic wear [Don't toss out the winning team fashions. Your child will enjoy showing them off]
Costumes
Miss-Match Socks [I think the washer ate them]
School Uniforms [Donate them to help a child join a club]
Sentimental clothing (Sweatshirts, T-shirts and Tank Tops)
Anything that hasn't been worn twice in a year!
You can use this system with your entire family. Kids love to be organized when they know how. Children will gladly make up name labels and tag the storage areas for you too.
When summer came around up I used to pile my winter clothing in the Attic but I don't do that anymore since I forget they were in the Attic by the time winter came back around. All those clothes are still up there now so I guess I better get up there and fix this mess. Also I don't advise storing fashions in cellars since they can become moldy, damaged and damp smelling.
P.S. I still like to know where the other sock went too.
