About our Swaphandmedowns Mascot Lea-Lea (Leala)

Our mascot born June 2005 was rescued and given to me. The people who first had her abused her. She was full of fleas, starving and dirty. Skin and bones she was. If you tried to pet her head she would back away. Scared that she was going to get hit.

I took her in about 2 months ago and with gentle coaching she began to trust. I can pet her head now and she is ok with it! She has learned to trust me and love me too. I named her Lea-Lea (Leala).

She has made many trips to nursing homes, grocery stores and shopping malls. Everyone that sees her has to stop and say Hi! She loves the elderly people. She goes crazy when I finally come back home. Waiting for me to open the door and walk in and then she attacks me with love. She jumps right into my arms and just goes crazy! (Who would ever think that a dog can give hugs and kisses) This one does!

She has gained about 10 pounds and is happy as a lark.

Lea-Lea loves getting dressed up in her t-shirt since the weather on the east coast is cool in the wintertime. She even loves to pose for pictures. She is so funny and loving.

Why Lea-Lea is our mascot?

I feel she will be a good example to encourage the public to fight against animal abuse.

I took the time today to write this in hopes it will save other pets from being abused:

Dogs have a brain as a 4 year old child and can think just like a 4 - 8 year child old can.

The people that are abusing animals are also abusing humans. They abuse their parents, children and society. !

They should be made by law to take - animal abuse schooling or do jail time. Better yet left out in a freezing doghouse all night.

‘9 signs may save 9 lives today’ if you see pet abuse - report it!

9 Signs that someone may be abusing their pet:

1. Hitting the pet

2. Not feeding the pet daily and/or providing clean drinking water daily

3. Not housing the pet correctly outside against harsh elements and/or allowing the pet to run on the loose and/or leaving a pet in a car on a hot day.

4. Not using the leash correctly - yanking on its leash to command it

5. Not adjusting the collar to fit right - thousand's of pets across the globe have been treated or have died because of strangling or an embedded collar

6. Not following up with vet care and giving the pet proper grooming

7. Leaving the pet alone for a long time

8. Allowing small children to abuse the pet

9. Knowing they are abusing a pet and not getting help!

Your best friend is you pet. ‘9 signs may save 9 lives today’ if you see pet abuse - report it!

Thank you Lea-Lea for trusting again. The whole world can now love you too!
